If I WAS

If I was the hunter, I'd be strong, brave, and determined.
If I was the hunted, the prey, the victim, I'd be forgotten.
If I was the wind, I'd blow with all my might.
If I was the wind-maker, I'd shelter me.
If I was the ground, I'd try very hard to grow.
If I was the ground, I'd swallow me up.
If I a tree, I'd withstand man's hard hand.
If I was a twig, I'd fall with tear-stains.
If I was a word, I'd be many unvoiced words.
If was a book, I'd have few covers, maybe none.

If you were a star, you'd shine down on us.
If you were the sunlight, would that make me the dawn?
If you were a flower, you'd be the loveliest of all,
you'd take my only breath away.
If you were the hands of time, it would never be up.

But...
...If you were me, you wouldn't feel a thing.

A Poem Written by a Student With FAS/FAE

Done forget I have brain problems that don’t show.
I can’t change my brain,
but you can help me change stuff around me that causes me to have worse problems.
I can learn if you will teach me hands-on and if I’m really interested.
I am able to understand with my heart – and I have a good heart.
I want to succeed.
I want to feel god and be able to live a good life.
Love me, just as I am.
